Ok let's see - we have an image hosted on a profile that is 1 day old and asks you to visit a website with a strange url with a promise of a financial reward on an another website. How do you even imagine that would work? And now, of course, people start crying that their computers got infected with malware. Which is great - every genius who fell for this obvious phishing scam deserved it. I hope your shitty computer burns and you along with it.

Opinions are a Dangerous thing: Art StylesThis isn't about narking on anyone no, infact this is just my own muses really! You could say this is a journal for ENCOURAGEMENT! *SHINES*
I find sticking to one style restrictive if you are a beginning/moderate artist! (even professionals I might say! though I can't speak for everyone)
Having a distinctive look on how your art is done and produced is understandable and its a desire to appear unique to the point some one can just SEE your work and instantly think 'Oh! that's Ten-days!' or something along the line. However, when you are trying to find who you are and what kind of art you are to produce, I recommend trying, well, a lot of different things! Different styles, mixing styles, different colouring techinque, brushes, tools, shading. Don't feel dependant on what you are already doing and don't feel pressured by people just for trying new things!
Push out of your comfort zone. Can't draw hands? don't avoid it! draw the heck out of them! (how else are you going to learn?)

What I personally find the hardest to draw is feet and hands. I found that with a lot of practice and a lot of frustrating mistakes my feet and hands actually look at the very least almost the way i want them to be.
Now my favorite Style of drawing is Anime or sometimes semi-realism, and i find that by doing studies of the more traditional style realism actually helps improve my anime pictures greatly. For instance i would practice drawing my hands and feet in different positions holding different things and from different angles. I also find it extremely helpful while i'm drawing and i'm having a particularly hard time drawing a hand or a foot in a certain position i will stop for a

Wow! The "Lost In Space" challenge was extremely successful
and I want to once again thank all of the participants for making that happen. We actually had participants in each level! That makes me very happy.

If you do not win a challenge, don't be down on yourself. Keep participating! I try to come up with themes and challenge requirements that are interesting as well as fun for you so that you'll want to enter. But, It's not just about the winning, it's also about the learning. With each challenge you should be stretching yourself beyond your limitations to be the best that you can be. So don't give up. You can't win unless you participate!

Our New Challenge

Our new challenge, Zodiac Signs is a repeat of the challenge we did in 2008 when we were a club, so some of you have made one before. I hope that doesn't keep you from creating a new Zodiac poster and participating again.

Here are four examples from the last Zodiac challenge.

Things You Should Know Before You Get Started

The challenge features texture stock from three of my favorite resources for textures, ~SheisprettyStock,`tExTuReMaTtIc, and *SolStock. I've also chose 2 textures from our group affiliate, #one-stop-stock.

You're to use two of the required texture stock, either as a background or as overlays, but I must be able to see the texture that you chose.

Do read the requirements below very carefully. Besides the two textures requirements, you must also have the name of the Zodiac sign as part of your image. After that, you're free to do anything
you want with your Zodiac entry.

Please don't forget about the new "Large View available" rule.

For new members, or members submitting for the first time or after a long break, please review this new rule HERE.

You can enter 2 deviations into the challenge. Each entry must use different required stock.

The winners will receive prizes from `WDWParksGal and a stock provider who it to be announced later.

If you are a stock resource deviant and would like to donate a stock pack for this challenge, please send me a note.

Due date for the challenge is August 1st. Since the challenges always start on a Monday and end on a Sunday, that gives you 14 days to come up with a plan and execute your entry.

Please watch the Countdown clock on the Home page for the last minute of the challenge.

"Zodiac Signs" Challenge Requirements

1. You MUST use at least two textures from the choices below:

2. You can use the textures as a background or as an overly or in any combination you like. The textures can be well blended into the deviation, but I must be able to see the textures that you chose.

3. You do not have to have your deviation in a portrait format. It can be portrait or landscape, it's completely up to you.

4. You MUST have the name of the Zodiac sign as part of the image. Refer back to examples above.

5. You MUST use other stock found at dA, or from your own stock, or your personal collection if you like to create stock or other resources. This extra stock should relate to the theme of the challenge.

6. You may also use brushes, textures, filters, and other resources or special effects to enhance your image. In fact you SHOULD use a combination of these elements to create interesting imagery.

However, be careful about the special effects. Sometimes they look out of place and unnecessary, or take over the main points of the
subject matter, so select and use wisely.

7. Do be creative and different. I can't stress this enough. You know that others will participate and use the same stock, so come up with something that will catch the judges eye.

8. You must have a large view available for your deviation. This will allow the judges to get a clear view of your entry.

There are more than one way to do this, but having a downloaded version of a large deviation is the best way.

If there is a problem having your deviation available for download, please read Updated Group Rules for more details.

9. DO follow the group RULES which can be found HERE.

10. Please do not use watermarks until after the challenge is over. I understand why you would choose to use a watermark, but they do get in the way when someone is trying to
see a full view version of your entry, especially the judges.

11. DO give proper credit to the stock artist
including DIRECT LINKS TO THE STOCK that you use. I will
verify this and send your entry back if it's missing any part of the credits.

If you are using your own stock, make a simple statement that makes it clear which stock is your own.

WHAT TO DO
WHEN YOUR DEVIATION IS COMPLETE

A. First, in the Artist's Comments box, make sure you post that your deviation is for the "Zodiac Signs" Challenge at #ManipulateThis and include our icon.

B. Second, have the level you're entering in (Level 1 or Novice, 2 for Beginners, 3, for Intermediate, and 4 for Advance) with the info above in your "Artist's Comments". If you're not sure about the level, please read a description of each level in the rules.[link]

Choose your level carefully and accurately. A wrong level can affect winning the challenge.

However, if I feel your level 2 deviation is really a level 3, or
a level 3 deviation is ready to be bumped up to level 4, I will
contact you to make the change in your Artist's Comments post.

Please don't ask me which level you should post in.

No entering under two different Levels or the highest one will be disqualified! And, if you write down two levels, I will take the first.

C. Then submit your deviation by selecting "Contribute Art" in the menu on the Home page of the group. It must be approved before it's placed into the FEATURED gallery.I
always move from the FEATURED to the challenge folder, so don't worry about that.

Remember, deviations that are NOT for the challenge will be declined.

D. You will receive a confirmation message at your art account if the entry was accepted or not. If it was declined you will receive a comment with the decline entry telling you why. If there is time, you're allowed to edit your deviation or start again.

I am here to help. If you have any questions or need my help, don't hesitate to contact me. Also, if you want your entry to be previewed before you submit, simply send a note to the group with a link to your deviation and we'll be happy to give you some constructive comments.

Don't forget, you still win stock prizes for challenges, so do your very best in execution, and really create a fascinating entry!

Not if you use them just right. And for this challenge, the textures work fine. We're not necessarily working on something that will end up looking realistic.

I use textures in almost all of my deviations and most of the time you can't tell (it depends if I used the texture heavy or blended them in). It can help enhance the image and add to the design in a variety of ways.

I actually got invited to a traditional media group recently because they thought my work was traditional, not photo-manipulation! It really surprised me that they couldn't tell the difference!

So give it a try.

Question, is the Chinese zodiac okay to do instead of the western zodiac? (Or perhaps together in one) For example, could I create something for my Chinese year, the dragon? Or both Dragon and my western Zodiac, Leo?
