OUR CURRENT CHALLENGE

Good Evening, Members!

:star: Update February 21::star:

:bulletred: First, I've changed the requirements for the challenge.

You know, I was working on my entry for the current challenge, "Season Of The Mages", and realized something.  I wanted to do something different, and I came up with this idea.  I had never done such a photo-manipulation in my life and didn't think of the time it would take to complete it.

Therefore, I've decided to revamp the challenge instructions.  We are ONLY creating One manip--ONE SEASON with an appropriate Mage for that season.

Here is one that I created with my original four, as an example of what you can do:

:bigthumb592333273:

KEEP IN MIND THAT THE ABOVE IS ONLY AN EXAMPLE OF AN UNFINISHED MANIPULATION, and there are many flaws!

See Below For The Updated Revamped Challenge Instructions

:bulletred: Second, many people seem to be concerned about creating their own 3D Renders for this challenge.  This is NOT true!  DeviantArt is filled with many stock accounts that has free to use 3D models, backgrounds, and objects.  Here are a few of my favorites:

MaureenOlder,  zememz,  Twins72, Twins72-Stocks, moonchild-ljilja,  stock-cmoura,  mysticmorning,  Selficide-Stock,  Elevit-Stock,  jujukittychick,  lorddarkwolf,  oldhippieart,  NorellaAngelique, TW3DSTOCK, and the list goes on and on!

Since rendered stock is always cut outs, you be able to save time! That means ou'll have plenty of time to create 2 entries!

In addition, you can find free 3D Render stock to download online; don't forget to credit and give a complete link to the off-dA source if you do download from the web.

If you need help finding a specific 3D rendered model or stock, let me know and I'll be happy to lead you in the right direction.

:bulletred: You still have until Sunday, March 6th to submit your entry.

:bulletblue:  Remember, Our Challenges are REAL Challenges!

Please don’t forget to READ the Challenge Information CAREFULLY, follow our Submission Policy, and come up with something Exciting and Unique!

Don't Ever Be Afraid To Challenge Yourself, And I'm Here To Help!

CHALLENGE INFORMATION

Our new challenge is called " Season Of The Mages" and it features the 3D Rendered Tree stock of zememz and Alegion-stock.

:star:DUE DATE: The ” Season Of The Mages” Challenge begins today, Monday, February 15 and will end Sunday, March 6, giving you three full weeks to come up with an idea, search for stock, create, and enter.

Please keep track of the time in your area by watching the Countdown Clock on the Home page.

:star: What is a MAGE?:star:

:bulletwhite: A Mage is a type of wizard, sorcerer, sorceress, magician; a practitioner of paranormal magic. A learned person.

Here’s one of my earliest deviations, “Gift of the Water Mage”, as an example to lean you towards one way to envision a Mage:

THIS IS WHAT YOU'RE DOING

I know that this may seem like a lot of information, but I want to be sure that you are clear about this challenge.  I have no exact examples from past challenges to show you.  Believe me, this is going to get your brain rattling with good ideas for fantastic imagery!

:bulletred: First, VERY IMPORTANT: I prefer that this be a 3D Render Challenge using ONLY 3D Rendered stock.

Please Categorize your entry as Digital Art > 3-Dimensional Art with the appropriate sub-category.

:star: However, if you cannot find the stock that you want to use as a 3D Render, and you must use Photo Stock with the 3D Rendered REQUIRED STOCK, then your entry Must Be Categorized as Digital > Mixed Media.
Okay? :star:

:star: Now For The Details::star:

:bulletblue: You're going to create a image that Represents ONE Of The Four Seasons.  You have your choice of Winter, Spring, Summer, or Autumn.

:bulletblue: Even though some areas have snow in winter, and little if any rain in the summer,  and Spring takes forever to arrive and Autumn seems to last forever, your entry should look like what we typically think of when we think of that season.

:bulletblue:  You must use AT LEAST ONE (1 or more) Different TREE from the stock under REQUIRED STOCK CHOICES below to represent the season.

:bulletblue: You can use your own choice of a different 3D Render Stock Model to represent a Mage for the particular Season.

:bulletblue: Your Mage does not have to be a realistic person.  It can be a Fantasy Person or even an Animal, but the viewer should understand that who they see is a wizard, a sorceress, a learned person, and such.

:bulletblue: The Mage and  (at least the one Required) Tree Stock are the SPOTLIGHT  your entry; NOT the background. Make them large and forward in the image.  This photomanipulation is about them!

:bulletblue: Use more appropriate 3D Rendered stock including grass, snow, falling leaves, tree stumps, plants, flowers, butterflies, birds, animals, etc., and other appropriate tree stock to finish your scene.

Or, mix in Photo Stock: Just be sure to categorize your deviation as Mixed Media, NOT a Photomanipulation. This is a deviantArt’s rule.  We want to always categorize correctly.

:bulletblue:  Use any other appropriate stock (like fire, wind, a staff, globe, etc.) to point out that the model is a Mage.

:bulletwhite: You can submit TWO (2) Entries. Please choose a different season as well as different stock for your second entry.

Remember: We Are Artist Who Use Photomanipulation As Our Medium.  You CAN And SHOULD:

:bulletblue:  Change the color of any part or all of a stock accordingly.
:bulletblue:  Add another stock to  any part of a stock accordingly.
:bulletblue: Enhance Areas Of The Main Image While Slightly “Blurring” The Background.  This will make the main point of your image “pop forward” and stand out.
:bulletblue:  Use Textures, Brushes, Special Techniques And A Little Show  of Special Effects.</font>

We Are FINE ARTIST!
BE CREATIVE! It’s more than simply sticking one stock into a background stock!

REQUIRED STOCK CHOICES

Please Choose Any Of The Trees From The Stock Packs Below To Represent Each Season “Mini-Scene” For Your “Season Of The Mage” Entry:

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOUR ENTRY IS COMPLETE

:bulletwhite:  Follow The Submission Policy Found Here:

I've answered your first post. I just realized something.  I think you think that you have to make your own 3D renders. No! There's plenty of 3D rendered stock at deviant art.  If you don't know how to find it, let me know and I'll tell you how to use the dA's Search.

Hi!

I don't know what you mean about creating 3D render avatar.  You can find 3D rendered stock at deviantArt.  Like, this deviation of mine is all 3D rendered stock (background, plants, bees):
Mushrooms And Fireflies by TheFantaSim

This one too:
Pet by TheFantaSim
The background, chain, collar, elf, extra trees, lightning--all 3D rendered stock.  If you link to my deviations you can find the sites where I found them, and they will have all sorts of 3D stock and more.  If you would like for me to list my favorite sites, I will. :)

That's okay! I thought that's what you meant.  See the updated information in the journal about the challenge and see I included links to some 3D stock dA accounts.

When I'm looking for 3D rendered stock images, in the Search box on the top of every dA page, I put in 3D Render, then click the Search box.  Then, I go down the column of Categories, select Resources And Stock Images.  At this point I can search what comes up, or select 3D Models.  For Example, simply selecting Resources and Stock Images brought me here:

www.deviantart.com/browse/all/…

Looking under 3D Models brought me here:

www.deviantart.com/browse/all/…

If I'm looking for something specific, like 3D Render Fairies, I'd put those words in. When I selected Resources And Stock Images as the Category, I got this page:

www.deviantart.com/browse/all/…

I hope this helps!

I thought I'd start the year off with a BANG!

This should have been January's challenge, but I was too swamp to get it off the group.  I was so happy that nitchwarmer did one.

I have homework to do first, so I probably won't get started on one for a few more days.  It'll be good to be back in the saddle again, myself.  I haven't done a full-fledge photomanipulation in over a year, just small stuff for school assignments.

I can't wait to see what you do!

Yes, please.  I want this to be a 3D challenge, but I know that sometimes it's difficult to find exactly what you want in a 3D Render.  That's why it's okay for the image to be a Mix Media (3D with photo stock).

Challenges are suppose to be out of your comfort zone!

Let me know if you have any questions.  One hint I can give you: Using textures to blend your over all image together keeps the rendered stock from looking "strange".

All 3D:
Bird On My Mushroom by TheFantaSim

Mixed Media (the sky and mountains in the background is photo stock):
Secret Rendezvous by TheFantaSim

I learned if I'm going to mix photos with rendered, it's best to have very little of one or the other.

so another question.............does the model stock have to be 3d rendered stock?

If you're finding what you need in all 3D stock, then, yes, even the model is 3D. The model can be photo, but it helps to use textures to keep the model from looking out of place. Examples 3D with a photo model:
The Wolves by TheFantaSim     Haunted Moon by TheFantaSim     You Don't Know Me... by TheFantaSim
