How The Group Works

Journal Entry: Tue Jan 5, 2010, 10:40 AM
New Format Of ManipulateThis:

Hi members!

A lot of rules, but it should cover everything about the group.

How The Group Works~Updated 3-21-14

We are not a regular group where you submit any deviation from your gallery.  Only members who are the Picks Of The Week as  chosen by the judges for the ending 2 week period may submit a deviation from their gallery to be featured in the group's slide show.

:bulletgreen: You are expected to participate in the group. It doesn't have to be every week, but enough to be visible.

:bulletgreen: You are expected to use any theme or style of your choice with the available stock photos.

:bulletgreen: However, NO overly gruesome, or overly bloody deviations. This, of course, is still up to  my discretion. And Absolutely NO horror or macabre, and anything Showing Harm To A Child. I will not accept these deviations! I have reasons for this, I don't have to tell you, and   I don't want to have anyone try to change my mind.

:bulletgreen: The rules about mild nudity stays the same. I make the decision to accept the deviation or not.

:bulletgreen: Your entries will receive comments but your deviations will always be accepted.

:bulletgreen: Follow the new rules about "cut outs", and mixing "photo stock with 3D renders". Your deviation will still be checked for cut outs that are not from a reputable source, or mixing renders with photo stock.  I will not accept your deviation for one or both of  these reasons.

:bulletgreen: Every two weeks, all deviations for each level will be presented to the judges. . If there are not enough entries to judge in any level, the deviation will have to wait until the next judging period. Prizes and features will still be awarded to the "Picks Of The Week".

:bulletgreen: When creating a deviation for the group,  please be creative. This is very important. Still, be careful. Whenever you do something "extremely" different, you can confuse the judges.

:bulletgreen: Please READ the EXPECTATIONS below CAREFULLY!! They will be the same,  unless it's adjusted for seasonal changes and holidays.

Got questions? Don't hesitate to make a comment below this blog, or write a note to the group.

How You're Entries Are Being Judged

:bulletblack: The entry that is following the rules of the group. (Know The Rules, Requirements And Expectations!)

:bulletblack: The entry with the additional stock that fits their main theme. (Avoid One Stock Paste Into a Background).

:bulletblack: The entry with the best execution according to the level that has been covered above:
1) Good composition,
2) The use of art elements,
3) Using different manipulation resources,
4) elements of the manip blending smoothly together,
5) Using additional styles and elements that were taught in the group,
6) And of course, creativity and originality.

:bulletred: I have the right to decline any deviation for content. .

Expectations For Every Entry

:bulletgreen: Completed  Entries Will Be Judged On Sunday, Every Two Weeks,  Starting Sunday, 20th.

Please watch the Countdown Clock on our HOME page for the exact time of  the end of each entries period.

Create Your Entry  Using the one (or more--depending on the challenge) Using These Expectations:

:bulletgreen: You can edit the required stock, as long as I can tell it is from the current  required stock pool.

:bulletgreen: You can use any background you like , or create one  yourself. But NO Pre-Made Backgrounds!! I want to see what you.

:bulletgreen: You must use at least 3 additional stock per entry. Note: No matter what you're doing, a model and a background are always required because you cannot have one without the other. So do not count the background or the model as one of the additional stocks.

:bulletgreen: Using anything  that you've learned in the group will get you a bunch of brownie points. Check out, and make sure you understand, the following tutorials and/or walk through that relates to this group:
"Scene Versus Design",
"Creating Space And Depth",
"Pre-Made Backgrounds",
"Short  Tutorial-Textures", "Tutorial Colorizing Painting BW Stock",
"Autumn Landscape Walkthrough",
"The Elements And Principles Of Design".

:bulletgreen: Don't forget the rules about "cut out" stocks. THIS will get your deviation
sent back to you or place into the non-competitive category.
manipulatethis.deviantart.com/…

:bulletgreen: NO mixing photo stock with 3D renders!! This will cause a problem when it's
time to judge your deviation.

:bulletgreen: NO heavy painted entries!! If you need clarification on that, read the info on the Home page.

:bulletgreen: All entries for any challenge or contest must be at least 1280 x 960 and able to be downloaded. This is so the Judges can get a close look at your entry. You can always make it smaller after the challenge/congest

Group Rules

:bulletblack: Only members can participate in group activities.

:bulletblack: Only the Feature Moderator can suggest Favorites.

:bulletblack: All entries will receive comments,  but all deviations will be accept. If an above requirement or expectation is not followed, then the deviation will be decline with out a reason why.

:bulletblack: All stock and other resources must be from deviantArt's stock accounts.

:bulletblack: Tiny pieces of the required stock that is found in the stock pool or using only a part or parts of the required stock is no longer acceptable.

:bulletblack: Any model stock, required or not, must be the central point of the image with any other stock from the stock pool.

:bulletblack: You must give credit and notify the stock artist that you've used their stock. NO EXCEPTIONS!  Of course, you must read their rules first. Sometimes the stock artist does require that you leave a note that you've used their stock

:bulletblack: When selecting the level you want to participate under  make sure that it is the right level for your ability as a manipulator. New members MUST use the level that is given to them at the time that they joined.

Read Below For My Definition For Each Level: For This Group

:bulletgreen: Level 2. Beginner: You're no longer Novice, but you still have a lot to learn. Your concepts and execution need some improvement, but you're getting a handle on how to use your paint program and you've improved from your earlier deviations.

:bulletgreen: Level 3. Intermediate:Your concepts and execution have improved tremendously. It no longer takes hours to create a deviation because you now understand how to use your paint program to do what you want it to do. Your deviations have improved from the ones you were creating at Level 2.

:bulletgreen: Level 4. Advance: You may not feel like you're Advance, but for our group, if you've gone beyond the Intermediate level, you're ready for Advance.

However, if I feel your level 2 deviation is really a level 3, or a level 3 member is ready to be bumped up to level 4, I will contact you to make the change in your Artist's Comments post.

:bulletred: No entering under two different Levels or the lowest one will be disqualified! And, if you write down two levels, I will take the first.

:bulletred: Absolutely No entering under different levels between the two weeks entry period.

Competitive And Non-Competitive Categories

:bulletred: A "Non-Competitive" entry is one that is not part of the competition, and, therefore, will not be judged. However, it will still be added to the challenge blogs and to the gallery.

:bulletred: If you're interested in participating but rather not have your entry compete, then this is the category for you.

:bulletblack: When creating a deviation for the Non-Competitive category, you're still expected to follow all requirements and expectations.

:bulletblack: Please write in the artists that it is a Non--Competitive entry.

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOUR ENTRY IS COMPLETE

:bulletblue: A. First, in the Artist's Comments box, make sure you post that your deviation is for a challenge or contest at at ManipulateThis. Include the title of the challenge/contest and include  icon.

:bulletblue: B. Second, have the level you're entering under (Level 2 for Beginners, 3 for  Intermediate, and 4 for Advance) with the info above in your "Artist's Comments". If you're not sure about the level, please read a description of each level in the rules. manipulatethis.deviantart.com/…

Choose your level carefully and accurately. A wrong level can affect winning the challenge.

:bulletred: If you're a new member and I've suggested a level for you, please participate under that level until you and I decide it's time for  you to move up a level.

:bulletblue: C. Then submit your deviation by selecting "Contribute Art" in the menu on the Home page of the group, or from the "Submit To Group" link on the right hand side on the page of your original deviation. It must be approved before it's moved to the current challenge folder.

Remember, deviations that are NOT for the challenge will be declined.

:bulletblue: D. You will receive a confirmation message at your art account if the entry was accepted or not. If it was declined you will receive a comment with the decline entry telling you why.

If there is time, you're allowed to edit your deviation or start again. An edited deviation will change the original if you use the "Edit" link on the page of the deviation.

:bulletred: IMPORTANT!If the above happens and you do not delete the original deviation from your gallery, please send a group note so that I know to remove the original entry.

I can't think of any other rules, requirements, or expectation I need to have for the group, but keep in mind that this page  can be edited at any time. Okay? But most of you have been participating on a regular basis and you know the rules so I don't think this will be a big problem.

Don't let any of this scare you. It seems like a lot, but it really isn't. If you forget something about the requirements and expectation, just refer back to this page.  If you're confused and need some clarification, then send a note to the group and I'll be happy to respond.

:icongrin--plz:

Now go have fun creating interesting, exquisite, well executed photomanipulations to show off that you're a member of ManipulateThis!

Its cool to see that you took effort to create these rules, and that they are strong and fair. It was nice to read

I've been with the group since it opened. Most of those rules were already established and I had to edit them over years as problems arose. I don't expect anyone to memorize them, they are there for reference. :)

Hi!
I read it completly! :)
but about stock iīm not sure if i understand it right!

Is this right?:
1)Iīm only allowed to use stock from DA? (Thats bit sad cause. i started to pay for my stocks cause i didnīt liked to be ask for showing it at my own website)
2) thereīs only one stock-image allowed in a composing? and if its a model it has to be an importent part of the pic?

All this text covers all of the group rules. There here as a reference . You don't have to memorize them or anything like that.

The challenges begin every other Monday. A new challenge will begin this coming Monday, March 25th. Look for the journal with the requirements and expectations that should be in your messages or check on the groups home page.
