All Members, Please Read The Rules!
This is not like other photomanipulation clubs: We do not just add your deviations our gallery as regular submissions. Your art is added to the gallery when you participate in a challenge or a challenge contest.
After the challenge, if you are selected by a panel of judges (or by ballot votes if it's a challenge contest) you will be invited to send us one of your personal favorite deviations to feature in our gallery.
If you send in a deviation that is not the theme of the current challenge or you were not "Pick Of The Week" for any previous challenge, your work will be returned with a link to the rules.
1. One challenge submission only unless otherwise stated. You must choose between one of the challenges provided that week. But if you want to submit one competitive and one non-competitive entry, that is allowed.
2. Challenges change every two weeks (unless something interrupts the challenge at which time it will be extended) and all details will be posted in a journal. It is allowed to use outside stock along side the stock that was provided for that particular challenge.
3. In the artist's comments box, you must give credit to both the challenge stock and the other stock, textures, brushes, etc. that you use.
You must give a direct link to the additional stock, etc., and follow any other stock deviant's policy, including how to contact them concerning the use of their stock. If we cannot verify that you've given stock credit, your entry will be returned and not posted until you comply.
4. The challenge stock must be easily seen in the deviation. We must be able to see all or large parts of the deviation without having to strain our eyes searching for them. Little pieces here and there that have been removed from the main stock will no longer be accepted in a challenge deviation.
So, for example, if you decide to use a particular image as a texture instead, make sure that it's obvious enough that you don't have to point it out. Your deviation may not be accepted and you may have lost valuable time to correct or redo your entry.
5. Do not mix in the same stock from past challenges.
6. No mixing and matching of stock in the current challenge. For instance, you can't take the background from challenge one and put it with the model from challenge three.
7. If you are asked to send in a new entry because one of the challenge images is missing from your entry, PLEASE make an entirely new submission. Trying to incorporate a new image into an already completed manip detracts from the quality. If you have enough time before the end of the competition, try to create a new piece.
8. You have until the end of the day of the challenge due date to send in your entry. For example, if the due date is May 10th, your entry note must be posted May 10th to be accepted. Late submissions will not be accepted.
9. Despite the semi-short time frame, DO YOUR BEST. No cut and paste jobs or simply adding something to a background. You don't have to be a pro to enter, but you do need to make an effort.
10. When sending in your submission please note which challenge it is (sometimes there may be one challenge that has a variety of interpretations) and if you are entering the beginner, intermediate or advanced challenge.
Only you can decided what level you're in, so please, do not send in an entry note saying, "you decide", because we won't. A suggestion may be made, but your entry will be sent back, so that you can make a decision, with a link to this page.
Please use the descriptions below, based on =
thefantasim art experience, to help you decide where you are in photomanipulation:
A. Beginner: You're a complete novice or you're still new to photomanipulation. You're experimenting with techniques and developing a style, and feel like you have a lot to learn.
B. Intermediate: You have a good grasp of your paint program but you're still exploring and want to try new things. Although your concepts are better as well as your compositions, and you may or may not understand
all there is to know about putting all art elements into your deviation; still, you're creating more successful deviation than you were as a beginner. It's easy to stay in intermediate because it is a very comfortable level to be.
C. Advance: This is a scary place because some people may say that if you're advance, you're an expert, and that's not necessarily true. However, as far as our club is concerned, an advance member knows their paint program and can produce a successful deviation in less time than it took as an intermediate. Their concepts are creative and coming easily, and they have a much better grasp of the use of art elements such as light and depth. Where manipulation comes in, there's a better control over textures, brushes, filters, etc. to help enhance the deviation, not overwhelm it.
11. Once you have sent your submission in, that's it, your entry is final (unless you're asked to fix something).
Requests to submit a new entry will be denied. If you delete your deviation prior to sending a request like this, it will be assumed that you decided to not participate in that particular challenge.
12. Make your entries as unique as possible. Remember, other people will be using the same stock as you, and if all the entries look the same...well, it's just not good.
***The same rules apply to both competitive and non-competitive entries***
How to Enter:
1. Submit your finished entry to your gallery.
2. Make sure to put in the description that it is a contest entry for ManipulateThis.
3. Send a note to the club with a link to the finished piece. The subject should be 'Entry'. In the body of the note, include the challenge you are entering as well as the level (Beginner, Intermediate or
Advanced).
Submitting Non-Competitive Entries
(If you are entering in the non-competitive division
you still must use the stock provided for that weeks challenge, same rules apply)
1. Submit your finished entry to your gallery.
2. Put in the description that it is a non-competitive entry for ManipulateThis.
3. Send a note to the club with a link to the finished piece. The subject should be 'NC Entry'
4. If you would like it mentioned that you want some constructive criticism, please specify that in the note.

What would you do, if you knew you couldn't fail?
Why haven't you at least tried?

1. If you do challege X could you also include one (or maybe even both) image from challege Y?
2. Is it allowed for you to do one competing and one NC entry? Even if its only of the same challenge, or if you have to do different ones for each: can you?
2. Yes, that's okay. Thanks for bringing it up, the thought never crossed my mind.
