Help Section

Journal Entry: Tue Nov 7, 2006, 11:13 PM

The Help Section Has Been Updated And It's Format Has Changed From It's Original Set Up In November, 2006. Please Read How You Can Use The New Version To Your Advantage.

The Help section is here for you to get some one-on-one or group help on your deviations. This help will come from the current staff, members, and guest deviants.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

There are three ways for you to get help on any challenge or non-challenge deviation:

1. The best way is the Help Forum because you will be open to get more help from different deviants. This is how it works: After each challenge, there will be a forum thread making a general critique on challenge entries. A staff member, a member, or a guest deviant may write the opening critique.

After each forum critique, members have a choice of
a) asking for personal constructive criticism on their entry in the journal thread,

b) asking for personal constructive criticism at their home site, or

c) asking for personal constructive criticism by note.

2. You can go past the help forum and ask directly for personal constructive criticism through a note. Only a staff member will respond to this note.

This criticism can be at any stage of your deviation by uploading it to your Scraps. Include in your note the level you are in photomanipulation (beginner, intermediate, advance), and exactly what you need criticism on. If you do not give us this information, the note will be returned asking for it.

3. You can also self-help through specific tutorials that can be found in the club's Favorites or the club's list of off site Resources. In addition, there will be a list to recommended brushes, textures and stock at dA. If you do not find exactly what you need, ask the staff for help.

THESE ARE THE RULES FOR THE FORUM AND HOW TO GET HELP

The rules are simple.

a. No cursing. If you cannot write without cursing, please go somewhere else.

b. Be specific when asking for help because they may not get attention right away. For example, simply saying "Help!" in the subject line is less specific as, "I need help with lighting."

c. Always give your level so that we know exactly what level of help that you need. You can find an explanation of levels according to *thefantasim on the RULES page.

d. The Help Forum is open to any deviant. If you want to respond to a thread, please be specific. You cannot help a person if you are using brief phrases or not including links, etc.

e. Please give any comments in a nice but constructive way, i.e., don't simply say "This is good" or "It's beautiful!" when there is something that needs work on such as composition, concept, lighting, or technique.

d. When you're on the other end of the criticism, do not take any thing personally. The deviants are here to help you. We are not your parents, your teachers or your best friend. We're here to be honest and help you improve. If you only want someone to pat you on your back, please go somewhere else.

Please Give Us Any FeedBacl On The Help Section. This Feature Is For You And We Want It To Work For YOU! Anywhere We Need To Change Or Anything You Want To Suggest, Don't Hesitate To Do So.

Perhaps you could add the following link on 'how to give better comments' [link] as a resource here.

I think It would be great to create a forum thread so anyone can browse and read suggestions, that may be helpful to everybody, or links to forum threads opened by authors in search of help, something like this :D
What do you think?

I'm here if anyone needs some tech help on photoshop, or hints. I very gladly also make paintovers to explain better (if I have time, or it's needed), but only on more elaborate compositions that may have a realistic desire on it. I'll try to help as I can if I can.

Can anyone tell me why photoshop saved my file as a j.jpg file and now it won't open it? Help I can't get my contest entry back to submit it?

Can you find it on your system? If you can, click on it, to see if it shows up in your picture viewer. If you can't find it, that's a different story. If it won't show in your viewer, send me a reply.

What would you do, if you knew you couldn't fail?
Why haven't you at least tried?

nope every time I try to open it it says it's unreadable. boyfriend tried a bunch of photoshop encryption fixers from the internet but now the copy he recovered has "demo" written all over it.

What does it say when you try to open it?
=ManipulateThis:iconManipulateThis: Nov 8, 2006, 2:55:26 PM
You mean start a forum thread on the photomanipulaters forum? [link] That would be a idea. they have a lot of free forums out there, I could also create our own forum if anyone would be interested.

If it can be read with "demo", it can be read without. Try changing the extensions on the file by renaming it. Start with .psd, and .psb It's a long shot that just might work. Then when you click on it, it tries to open it as a photoshop file. If that fails, name it back to the .JPG, and from the files tab, try importing it.
Do you have any other photoediting programs? Like GIMP?

BTW - Always look at it in the folder, before you close Photoshop. Just a thought.
