How The Group Works--Edited Rules

Tue Jan 5, 2010, 10:40 AM by =thefantasim:iconthefantasim:
Hi members!

Since I have joining open, we're getting many new members. A few new members are not following the rules of the group, and that's my fault for not posting them. So here we go (if you've been a member and know the rules, please read below because the rules have been edited and there is somethings that are new).

How It Works

We are not a regular group where you submit any deviation from your gallery to the group.

This is how the group works:

1. There's a challenge every two weeks, or maybe longer according to the theme, and a contest at least four times a year.

2. If you like the theme of the challenge, you may enter by creating a deviation which follows the basic challenge requirements.

3. You'll enter by uploading your deviation that MUST be approved before it's added to the gallery. If it is not approved you will receive a note explaining why.

4. After the challenge is over, invited judges and myself will pick our favorites for the challenge "Picks Of The Week". The judges will always write a small statement explaining why they chose the deviation. The winners are invited to submit any deviation from their gallery to be submitted to the gallery. ONLY WINNERS will be allowed to submit directly to the gallery.

Club Rules

1. Only members can participate in challenges and/or contests.

2. Only the feature moderators can suggest Favorites. This is very important. If I see the wrong deviation in the favorites gallery, it will be removed.

3. All challenge entries are subject to viewing before accepted. Any entry not following the rules of the group or requirements for the challenge/contest will be decline.

4. When choosing required stock for the challenge/contest, you can edit it but it must be clearly seen in the deviation. I should not have to squint to see the stock.

Tiny pieces of the required stock is no longer exceptable.

5. When selecting the level you want to participate under (1=Novice; 2=Beginner; 3=Intermediate; 4=Advance) make sure that it is the right level for your ability as a photomanipultor.
Read below for my definition for e

Level 1. Novice: You're new to photomaipulation, but feel comfortable enought to participate in a challenge/contest.

Level 2. Beginner: You're no longer Novice, but you still have a lot to learn. Your concepts and execution need some improvement, but you're getting a handle on how to use your paint program and you've improved from your earlier deviations.

Level 3. Intermediate: Your concepts and execution has improved tremendously. It no longer takes hours to create a deviation because you now understand how to use your paint program to do what you want it to do. Your deviations have improved from the onese you were creating at Level 2.

Level 4. Advance: You may not feel like you're Advance, but for our group, if you've gone beyond the Intermediate level, you're ready for Advance.

6. If I feel that you're obviously participating under the wrong level (a deviation under Level 2 when it's clearly an Intermediate or Advance deviation), I will move it to an other level. If I change your level, you'll be contacted.

I can't think of any other rules I need to have for the group, but keep in mind that they can be edited at any time. Okay? But most of you have been participating on a regular basis and you know the rules so I don't think this will be a big problem.

We're now a group! Be sure to "Join"!

Mon Jan 4, 2010, 11:43 AM by =thefantasim:iconthefantasim:
Hi gang!

Well, here we are, a group.

One important thing you must all do is join the group by clicking the "JOIN OUR GROUP" at the top of the page. Right now everyone is on watch and that's why you're able to get this message.

In the meantime I'm organizing the group. I'm glad to see that I can put thumbs in the blog. It'll make things so much easier for the challenges, as well as the monthly theme features every week.

Not everything transferred during the conversion to a group, that includes my notes, so I can't remember who volunteered to take over =suntanna position as the feature mod. It should take two people to complete this feature, so if anyone is interested, or had already contacted me, please send me a note.

The contest should start soon and I hope everyone is excited. It will be a contest for members only, but I will open up the group to new members by posting a news article.

That's all for now. Be good to each other and I'll see you soon.

Journal Entry: Sat Jan 2, 2010, 12:13 PM

Welcome to Manipulate This, A Club For Bi-Weekly Challenges and Contests for Beginning, Intermediate And Advance Photomanipulators.

Okay, gang, I've put in the request to convert from a club account to a group. There were more votes to convert and even more that responded what I did was okay with them. So here we go!

Once the conversion happens, all 710 members will be watchers until the officially "join our group". Of course, you'll automatically be a member when you do.

After the conversion and I get settled, we'll have the contest.

Thanks everyone for your input and suggestions. :D

"Autumn Fae" Challenge Picks Of The Week

Journal Entry: Thu Dec 31, 2009, 9:49 AM

Welcome to Manipulate This, A Club For Bi-Weekly Challenges and Contests for Beginning, Intermediate And Advance Photomanipulators.

Hi everyone!

Sorry it's taken so long for me to post the winners of the "Autumn
Fae" Challenge. As many of you know I was very ill the last part
of November and decided to take a break from =ManipulateThis
and begin the new contest the first Monday of January. I've been
spending a lot of time resting, catching up at my two art accounts, and creating Christmas features.

I do have some news for you before we view the winning deviations.

:bulletblue: First, I want to thank ~da-joint-stock for helping select the winners of this challenge. :D

:bulletblue: About converting to a group: I've been seriously thinking about going to a group. I'm trying to figure out how to do all of our various features in the group format. We can have a regular gallery through the FEATURED section and we can still have our theme favorites without any problems, this I know for sure.

I think when we have a challenge, I can post a blog with the information and put the challenge stock into a folder. I can also have our tutorials in a separate folder.

What do you all think? If you've started your own group or belong to a group, I'd appreciate you posting a link so that I can look at their set up. I want to view as many groups as I can before I convert.

:bulletblue:We will start our new contest, "Winter Queen", next Monday, January 4th. Some members have donated prizes, but more will really make this a successful contest because it will bring in more entries. I'll post the current prizes when I start the contest.

Oh, I also need judges. If you're not able to enter, maybe you can consider being a judge.

Send me a note if you can donate a prize (particular 7.99 for a 3-month subscription to the last first place winner), or would like to be a judge.

Now For Our "Picks Of The Week" For The "Autumn Fae" Challene

Don't forget, if you're a "Pick" you are invited to submit a "Member's Choice", and deviation of your choice from your gallery.

LEVEL 2

Judge: :iconthefantasim:

"Whispers of Autumn" by *blueshellmermaid

"It was difficult to choose between the two Level 2 entries. I
chose this one because I felt the figure fitted very well in it's
environment. I love the deep oranges and reds and the way the
leaves are floating around, especially how the forward leaves are
bigger which suggest space. I also like how the light is hitting
the figure and the dogs correctly according to how it's hitting
the trees in the background. Well done!"

LEVEL 3

Judge: :iconda-joint-stock:

"Here Comes The Autumn Fairy" by ~Nehirwen

"I chose this one because it is an excellent manipulation with all
the elements blended seemlessly together. I think it's a very
interesting design choice to have a blind fairy, when

stereotypically, you never see a blindfolded fairy.
Suggestions for improvment: The lantern draws alot of attention
because of the circular element around it. I'd suggest fading it
more so it isn't as distracting.

Overall a unique and beautiful piece. Good Work!"

"Can I Keep You?" by *angellella

"I like this one because It's a very nice manipulation - simple
but effective. The The hand and leaves easily convince the viewer
of the reality of the piece.

Suggestions for improvment: The only thing that bugs me with this
piece is the amount of white between the hand and the fairy. The
glow itself looks good, but there is so much glowing light that it
distracts from the rest of the piece.

Otherwise, this piece is excellent."

LEVEL 4

Judge: :iconda-joint-stock:

"Thinking About..." by =MaureenOlder

"This is an excellent manip with all the elements blended
perfectly. The title 'Thinking About...' fits it perfectly.
Suggestions for Improvment: The only thing that bugs me about this
piece is the wings. They seem to be too bright.

Otherwise, absolutely beautiful!"

"Autumn Mizz-d" by :devrickbw:

"A simple yet very well done manip. I like it because it has a
subtle paint-like quality to it - as though it's a real painting
and not a manipulation.

Suggestion for improvment: The falling leaving draw alot of

unnecessary attention. I'd suggest either fading them out or

putting them behind the girl instead of in front of her.
Good Work!"

Congratulations to all the "Picks"!
